About This Project
This project involved the full supply and installation of a solar-powered gate motor system for a residential property in Pretoria. The client wanted a reliable, low-maintenance solution that would keep working during load shedding — without the need for a backup battery connected to the mains.
We installed a high-efficiency 20W solar panel mounted on the gate pillar, wired to a sealed 12V gel battery housed in a weatherproof enclosure. The motor unit is a sliding gate motor rated for gates up to 500kg, with built-in obstacle detection and soft-start/stop functionality.
The system was programmed with two remote controls and tested across 50+ open/close cycles before handover. The client can expect 3–5 days of autonomous operation with no sunlight, and indefinite operation during normal sunny Pretoria days.
