Full diagnosis, repair, and reprogramming of a faulty electric sliding gate motor
Diagnose Before You Replace
Most faulty gate motors don't need replacing — they just need the right repair. We diagnose on site and only recommend a new unit if it's truly beyond economical repair.
Full Reprogramming Included
After every repair we reprogram the motor from scratch — travel limits, obstacle sensitivity, auto-close timer — so it runs exactly as it should, not just "well enough."
About This Project
The client in Midrand had a sliding gate motor that had stopped responding to remotes and was intermittently reversing mid-cycle. Rather than replacing the unit outright, they wanted a professional diagnosis first to see if it could be salvaged.
After a full inspection, we identified two issues: a blown capacitor on the control board causing erratic behaviour, and a misaligned limit switch that was sending a false "gate closed" signal mid-travel. Both were repaired on site — the capacitor was replaced and the limit switch was re-calibrated to the correct open and close positions.
The motor was then fully reprogrammed from scratch — sensitivity, travel limits, obstacle detection force, and auto-close timer were all configured to the manufacturer's recommended settings for the gate's weight and width. Both remote controls were re-paired and tested across 30 open/close cycles before handover. The unit is now running as well as the day it was installed.
Faults Found & Fixed
Blown Capacitor
Replaced on the control board — restored consistent motor torque and removed erratic behaviour.
Misaligned Limit Switch
Re-calibrated to the correct open and close positions — stopped the gate reversing mid-travel.
